Keen to sever ties with Yadav brothers
The RJD leaders appear to be more than willing to sever their ties with Sadhu Yadav and Subhash Yadav, the two bothers-in-law of RJD chief Lalu Prasad.
There were reports of a relative of Subhash demanding extortion from health minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey. A JD (U) MLA raised the issue in the Assembly alleging that “criminals” promoted by the previous government had become active. RJD MLA Raghvendra Pratap Singh shot back, saying: “Who is stopping you (the government) from arresting them?” The RJD insiders said most of the legislators would be happy to see Sadhu and Subhash in jail. “The two of them gave agonising times not only to the masses of Bihar but also to ministers and MLAs in the Lalu-Rabri regime. They got away giving statements against ministers and leaders of the RJD,” said an RJD MLA, stressing he would be too happy if the present regime gets the two behind bars.
Strange equation
The current session of the Bihar Assembly has revealed a strange equation between chief minister Nitish Kumar and Leader of Opposition Abdul Bari Siddiqui. A section of legislators from both the sides pointed out whenever a scam is discussed inside the Assembly, Siddiqui winds it up requesting the Speaker, Udai Narayan Choudhary, to allow chief minister Nitish Kumar look into the matter. It has happened twice in the case related to appointments made in Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences and in another case related to illegal activities of a housing federation. “There appears to be an unwritten agreement between the chief minister and Siddiqui that enables the chief minister’s office to get access to files related to controversial decisions taken by ministers,” said a BJP MLA.
Not fair enough
Speaker Udai Narayan Choudhary may be in his second consecutive tenure, but a section of MLAs, including some in the ruling party, are extremely hostile to him. Unlike his previous tenure, the speaker does not have to listen to remarks and slogans against him inside the Assembly but plenty of verbal jabs are aimed at him outside the House, some of which are uncharitable. When the plaster of a portion of the Assembly came down, a few MLAs were looking up at the repaired section of the roof the next day. “It missed its target by about 15 feet,” said an MLA. The speaker’s chamber is 15-feet away from the spot!
School students seldom had as nice and enjoyable time as they are having under the Nitish Kumar’s rule. First, they got bicycles, uniforms and adequate number of teachers and school building. Now, the government is acquainting them with the governance in a big way. The students from the government schools are being regularly invited to see the proceedings in the Bihar legislature. They participated in a big way in Bihar Divas
celebrations, too. They lighted candles and worked as volunteers at the celebration venues.
