Patna: Residents here woke up to overcast conditions and cool breeze on Monday, before skies turns partly cloudy around 10am and the wind speed dropped.
The weathermen said the morning clouds were the result of thunderstorm and squall across the state in the early hours. The storm, the Met office said hit Bihar between 12.55am and 4.30am. Power was snapped for almost two hours in several parts of Patna, and the storm brought along with it 0.4mm of rain.
Meteorologist in Patna, Sandeep Kumar said favourable conditions had led to the squall.
"While the easterly wind was blowing in the lower level of the atmosphere, leading to moisture feeding, the westerly was dominant in the upper layer leading to formation of the complete system. Also high temperature, accompanied by instable weather, created favourable condition for the thunderstorm," Sandeep explained.
Gaya, Bhagalpur and Purnea among other places also experienced similar weather conditions in the last 24 hours or so. Purnea recorded the highest rainfall at 31.9mm, followed by Bhagalpur (14.8mm) and Gaya (1.8mm).
Even though the temperature is likely to keep rising in the coming four-five days, possibility of more dust storms has not been ruled out.
"Scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm is likely across the state till Tuesday," said meteorologist Sandeep. "From Wednesday to Friday such conditions are likely in isolated places."
