Sleuths of the vigilance investigation bureau carried out simultaneous raids on the office and residential premises of Aurangabad's acting excise superintendent Saroj Kumar late on Thursday night and stumbled upon assets worth over Rs 1.1 crore.
This is the second operation in the past one week by the state government's anti-corruption wing. On Tuesday, raids were conducted on the office and residential premises of Saran deputy development commissioner Ravi Kant Tiwary.
The raids were simultaneously carried out at Saroj Kumar's residence on Boring Road, his office and residential premises in Aurangabad and his native place in Nalanda. The team found Rs 9 lakh in cash, 15 passbooks of different banks, documents related to the purchase of 30 registered plots of land and investments in insurance policies. Saroj was present in his Patna residence at the time of the raid, which concluded on Friday morning.
The documents state Saroj has a house at Hazaribagh in Jharkhand. He also has five properties in Delhi, including two flats in Sawan Park, one plot of land in Ashok Vihar and two plots in Najafgarh. A senior vigilance officer said: "We are sending a team to Delhi to verify the documents of the properties registered in the name of his wife and son."
In Patna, Saroj has two shops at Verma Complex in Boring Road and a plot each in Kankerbagh, Beur and Mehandiganj. The value of the property is shown to be far less than it actually is, the vigilance officer told The Telegraph. The vigilance bureau's inspector general, Anupama Nilekar, said preliminary investigations led to the recovery of assets worth Rs 1.09 crore.
