Strategy meet on toilets

Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation on Thursday had a meeting with Patna group commander of National Cadet Corps (NCC), Patna, Brigadier R.V. Singh along with officials of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Birla Institute of Technology, Patna, and National Institute of Technology, Patna, to discuss how to achieve open-defecation free status by December.

Suspension

Patna: The water resources department on Thursday suspended 19 of its engineers posted in Darbhanga, including chief engineer Vijendra Kumar Ram, for dereliction of duty.

Murder probe

Patna: Police investigation has revealed that the block education officer of Arwal, Shalik Ram Sharma, was killed by a Maoist at the behest of some school teachers and gram sevaks against whom the slain officer had lodged nine FIRs. Sharma had recommended termination of the contracts of the teachers as their certificates were found to be fake. Seven persons have been arrested.

Racketeer held

Patna: Prasanjit Kumar of Nalanda has been held for felicitating racketeers in opening bank accounts with SBI. The racketeers used to call people asking them to deposit money in the bank if they wanted to qualify in the Teacher Eligibility Test.

Patna: Hindi fortnight started at the office of Life Insurance Corporation  on Thursday.
