Patna, May 15: Music and food added a carnival touch to political deliberations at the RJD rally today.
Supporters who had come from far-flung districts found shelter and nourishment as well as entertainment at the homes of their leaders.
Surendra Prasad Yadav, the MLA from Belaganj in Gaya, hosted around 5,000 people at his official residence, 1M Strand Road. Supporters had started to pour in at his house from last night.
So there was dinner and a programme of regional music for them. Before setting out for the rally this morning, supporters were also offered breakfast.
When The Telegraph reached the house around 9am, supporters were found enjoying a meal comprising puri, mixed vegetables (potato and pointed-gourd), dal, rice, buniya (sweet), papad and salad. “The food is very good,” said Saran resident Murli Singh.
MLA Yadav said: “We must treat our supporters well. How will they walk all the way to Gandhi Maidan on an empty stomach in this hot weather?”
Once out on the streets, RJD supporters entertained themselves by playing musical instruments and singing, creating a festive mood.
The music was more traditional than contemporary. RJD supporters played the dhol, nagara, tutari, manjira, tamak and tumda as they sang and danced on their way to Gandhi Maidan.
