The axe is likely to fall on over half-a-dozen serving and retired employees of Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU) for their alleged role in the fake degree row of Jitender Singh Tomar.

The former Delhi law minister was arrested on June 9. A Delhi police team, led by assistant commissioner of police S.P. Tyagi, is camping in Bhagalpur to dig out further details related to the forgery case.

The team is likely to conclude its investigation by Wednesday evening.

"Going by the hints given by the police team, around half-a-dozen employees of TMBU are likely to be taken into custody and the team may take them to Delhi for interrogation. The police team a smelt rat when it found the tabulation register missing from the strong room of the university," a source in the university said.

A tabulation register (TR) is the document, in which marks obtained by different students of a given batch is recorded.

"The tabulation register, carrying records since 1998 is missing, which has led to doubts about the involvement of university personnel," a source in the police team said.

On Tuesday, the Delhi police team had quizzed former examination controller of the Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Rajendra Prasad Singh, whose signature was found on Tomar's provisional certificate.

Singh had earlier claimed that the signature on the document was a forged one, but he finally admitted to have signed the document himself.

While admitting, Singh gave the justification that he as a signatory authority, signed on the paper after the clerk concerned in the examination department, put the file before him.

The team also exposed a big dissimilarity - there are two tabulators' signatures on the college tabulation register of Tomar, but on the mark sheet of Tomar, there was another signature of one Raji Ahamad.

The team has also recovered the booklet of the former Delhi law minister's provisional certificate, which was dispatched to the examination department in 2002.

Interestingly Tomar's certificate was issued in 2001.
