Patna: A woman has filed an FIR alleging that BJP MLC Awadesh Narayan Singh's two sons held her captive in a room at their father's government bungalow at 2 Circular Road - a VIP area - on May 16 and also beat her up with the intention of sexually assaulting her.

The Mahila (Women) police station lodged the complaint, based on the written statement of the 24-year-old woman, who used to work as cabin crew member with a private airline, on Saturday evening.

Singh's sons, Sushant Ranjan and Prashant Ranjan, run the Cox & Kings travel agency franchise in Patna. Police sources said that the woman knew the brothers due to their travel business, and that MLC Singh and his wife had gone to Delhi on May 16.

Women police station house officer Vibha Kumari said the woman had not written her complaint properly on Friday, and was asked to write it afresh.

"The next day (Saturday), she did not come with her complaint but on behalf of her another person reached the police station with her application," Vibha said on Sunday.

"The police have lodged an FIR based on the woman's complaint," said Patna superintendent of police (SP), central, D. Amarkesh. "We are verifying the charges. If the charges levelled by the woman are true we will take the necessary steps as per the law.

"As there were several discrepancies in her complaint - such as how she managed to escape from the MLC's house when she was confined in a room - we have decided to record her statement afresh," Amarkesh added.

Singh said his sons are being framed in a false case, and are ready for any investigation.

"The woman in her complaint has said that my sons called her to my house on May 16. When the woman reached the house a large number of people including my daughter-in-law, servants, house guards and other people were at the house," the MLC said.

The Opposition picked up the FIR to target the ruling party.

Shakti Singh Yadav, RJD MLA from Hilsa, said: "Such incidents bring disrepute to the state. The police should carry out a detailed probe so that the victim gets justice."

Newly elected Congress MLC Prem Chandra Mishra also demanded an investigation. "Chief minister Nitish Kumar always talks of rule of law, but the state government's rule of law differs for common people and VIPs," Mishra said.
