Patna, Oct. 13: Neetu Kumari has set a tricky task for police.

Three months after approaching the police with torture complaints that led to the suspension of her husband, Worldjeet Singh, a probationary sub-inspector, Neetu now wants him to be reinstated in the force.

In July, the 21-year-old woman had accused husband Worldjeet, then posted at the Agamkuan police station in Patna City, of torturing her. On the basis of her complaint to Patna senior superintendent of police Alok Kumar, Worldjeet was suspended.

Today, Neetu approached Kumar again, this time with a request to reinstate Worldjeet in the police department.

It’s not that the couple has sorted out their differences, but Neetu wants to return to Worldjeet’s home and he is not allowing her to do so.

“Though he does not beat me anymore, he keeps on abusing me,” Neetu said. “My husband argues that once he is suspended, there’s no reason why he should live with me. I don’t know what to do now. I cannot live with my family all the time,” she added.

On July 14, Neetu, along her father Lallu Ram, lodged a complaint against Worldjeet, accusing him of beating her up mercilessly the previous day. When Worldjeet, a resident of Transport Nagar, left for work after sunset on July 13, she managed to flee and reach her parents’ place. She was even admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) with injuries in her stomach and abdomen.

The next day, Neetu, along with her father, approached Kumar at his janata darbar seeking justice.

Today, it’s a different story. “Worldjeet is not allowing me to stay with him. I am compelled to stay with my father since July. My husband doesn’t give me any money or clothes. If he gets back his job, he may allow me to live with him. We have a small child, too. Please revoke his suspension,” she requested the SSP.

Kumar told The Telegraph that the suspended probationary sub-inspector and his wife have been directed to go for counselling at the women’s cell of the police department. “There are certain rules and we have to abide by them. The police cannot reinstate him just because his wife wants it,” he added.

“At the time of our marriage in 2009, Worldjeet was working as a peon with the Jharkhand tourism department in Ranchi. He had given an examination for the probationary sub-inspector’s job in 2004. But because of certain reasons, the results were not out since long. My family had given him Rs 1.34 lakh as dowry,” Neetu said.

Her family alleged that the situation changed ever since Worldjeet was selected for the PSI’s post in 2008. He started seeking more money from Neetu’s relatives and started torturing her brutally, one of her relatives said.
