Abhishek Kumar, son a marginal farmer in Supaul district, was on cloud nine after he came to know on Thursday that he had cleared the IIT JEE Main exam - the first step on the road to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology.
Abhishek, who is one of the students of Anand Kumar's Super 30 initiative, has secured all-India rank of 11,415 and is eager to clear the next step.
"I am very much happy with my JEE Main rank but my aim is to crack JEE Advanced," he said. "As now I am eligible for JEE Advanced, I will work hard to crack the test."
He said that his father does not earn enough for him to join a private coaching institute, and thanked Super30 for giving him a shot at realising his dream of studying at IIT.
Another student from Anand's Super 30, Rohit Kumar, has secured all-India rank of 11,461 in the IIT JEE Main.
"JEE Main is just the gateway for IIT Advanced while the final goal is IIT," said Rohit.
The state topper is from Abhayanand Super 30, sources said. Rishabh Ranjan has secured 296 marks out of the total 360 to secure the rank of 404.
Shivam Kumar, a student from FITT JEE coaching institute, has secured 290 marks and is most likely the second place holder from the state.
"By appearing for the Main I have come to know about my strengths and weaknesses," said Akash Pandey, who has secured 69,000 rank. "I will work hard so that I can get a good rank in Advanced."
Around 2.20 lakh students have cleared the Main exam out of 10.5 lakh students who had taken the test.
The 2.20 lakh students who have cleared the Main will be eligible to take the Advanced test, the top rankers of which will get admission to IITs.
As the results were declared on Thursday evening, students made a beeline for their coaching institutes and cyber cafés to know their ranks.
Sources said that this year, the JEE examination was held in a different pattern.
The Union government this year abolished the practice of calculating the weightage of class XII marks, which was added till last year.
Also, from this year, students have to secure at least 75 per cent marks in class XII examination or top 20 percentile in state boards to qualify for admission in the IITs/NITs and other centrally funded institutions that admit students based on their JEE Main and JEE Advanced scores. For SC/ST candidates the Class XII marks cut-off is 65 per cent.
