Patna: One more corporate house has come forward to help youths from Maoist-hit Banka district get jobs.
Automobile maker Mahindra & Mahindra has decided to conduct a 25-day employability bridge programme in the eastern Bihar district for those who have studied up to the Plus Two level.
The company would conduct courses in four sectors - automobile, information technology enabled services, hospitality and retail - after which players from the sectors concerned would conduct recruitment test on the basis of which selection would be made.
This is being done on the initiative of the Banka district administration which has launched Unnayan Banka that aims to provide quality education to all using technology and also to add to the skills of the educated youths for making them suitable for the current job market.
Under the initiative, software major Tata Consultancy Services has been conducting the employability bridge programme since January this year. Many of the local youths have got jobs with TCS after completing the course.
The Telegraph in January this year had highlighted the achievements of such youths.
Since then TCS has expanded its scope of work in the district and from May this year, the company has decided to organise the employability bridge programme in two blocks also.
It has selected Belhar and Bounsi blocks for conducting the programme in addition to the one which is run at the district headquarters.
"The entry of Mahindra & Mahindra and the decision of TCS to go right up to the block-level are going to give a major boost to our efforts of finding employment for the district youths," Banka district magistrate (DM) Kundan Kumar, who has been the brain behind the Unnayan Banka initiative, told The Telegraph.
He said while TCS was training only graduates, the entry of Mahindra & Mahindra would provide a good opportunity for those who have studied up to +2 level.
The Banka DM also pointed out that the district administration was playing an active role in selecting the youths for the employability bridge programme and preference was being given to youths who had registered themselves with the district registration and counselling centre and have undergone Kushal Yuva programme, which is being run as part of the seven resolves of the state government.
