Patna: A city police team will leave for Gujarat on Monday to arrest four suspects in the gang-rape of a teenaged girl at an isolated place under Naubatpur police station in Patna rural.
The police have ascertained the suspects' identity on the basis of a video that went viral on social networking sites earlier this month. The girl from Jehanabad district had gone to her relative's house in Naubatpur area when she was raped.
A senior officer associated with the investigation said the youngsters escaped to other states after the matter came to notice. "Efforts are underway to nab the accused at the earliest," he told The Telegraph.
Identity of the accused was ascertained with the help of village chaukidars, vikas mintras and people's representatives who were shown the photographs. The language the accused were heard using indicated they were residents of the Magadh region that comprises Jehanabad, Gaya, Arwal and Aurangabad.
An investigating officer met the girl and recorded her statement on Saturday soon after inspector-general (Patna zone) Nayyar Hasnain Khan reviewed the investigation in the case lodged with Gaya town police station. "The zero FIR is being transferred to Nauabatpur police station after completing legal formalities," Gaya senior superintendent of police Rajeev Mishra said.
He told reporters that since the incident occurred in the Naubatpur police station area, the case would be transferred there.
Authoritative sources said the rape survivor would be produced in court on Monday for recording her statement under Section 164 of CrPC. Medical examination would also be conducted under supervision of a medical board. "The girl was looked terrified," said a police officer.
The girl told the police that the accused spotted her with her boyfriend near Bikram-Lakhpar village. "Though I repeatedly requested them to spare me, they didn't listen to me and committed the crime," she told the interrogators.
Sources said one of the accused later married her at a temple to assuage the family and the members of the panchayat. Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj said the culprits have been identified and would be arrested soon. He confirmed that the girl was married to one of the accused on the persuasion of his family.
This is the second such incident in the last month. Earlier, a minor girl from Jehanabad was allegedly raped and a video recorded of the crime.
