Patna: Tej Pratap Yadav's former official bungalow - 3 Deshratna Marg - that he claimed was haunted while vacating it, has been allotted to the Legislative Council chairman.

The bungalow is currently being renovated but the chairman's board has been installed.

An official in the building construction department said 3 Deshratna Marg has been earmarked for the Legislative Council chairman.

At present, Haroon Rashid of the JDU is, however, acting chairman of the Legislative Council. Former chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh's term ended in May 2017.

The building construction official said: "The acting chairman cannot occupy the bungalow and only the chairman will get 3 Deshratna Marg. Till then, it will be empty."

As minister in Nitish Kumar's Grand Alliance government, Mahua MLA Tej was allotted the bungalow. The RJD leader, however, never stayed in his official bungalow and used it to organise meetings of his party's students' wing and youth wing besides spiritual gatherings. He also celebrated his birthday at the bungalow last year.

At the time of vacating the address, Tej alleged that Nitish and deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi had released a ghost in the bungalow, forcing him to leave it.

Last year The Telegraph reported how Tej blocked the bungalow's main gate and used the narrow passage at the back, making lives of slum dwellers there difficult. He later demolished the blockade but today too the life of the slum dwellers has not changed as Tej had constructed a temple behind the bungalow.

The Banke Bihari temple is Tej's personal temple and he visits it twice a day.

As minister in the earlier NDA government, 3 Deshratna Marg was occupied by Vijay Kumar Chaudhary. As Speaker now, he resides at 2 Deshratna Marg.
