Motihari, Feb. 6: Volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra from different states planted saplings at Gandhi Sangrahalaya here today.

The saplings were planted at a place from where the Champaran Satyagraha, which finally paved the way for the country’s Independence, had started.

Around 150 volunteers, who have come from Darjeeling (Bengal), Keonjhar (Odisha), Sidhi (Madhya Pradesh), Deoriya (Uttar Pradesh) and Godda (Jharkhand), East Champaran, West Champaran, Chhapra and Siwan, were here to attend a six-day camp on national integration. The volunteers also participated in a seminar on Importance of Plantation for Ecological Balance required for healthy survival.

To mark the Champaran Satyagraha, the secretary of the sangrahalaya, Braj Kishore Singh, felicitated the team leaders from every state with a Gandhi cap.

“I feel energetic after visiting this historical place. I realised for the first time the responsibility of every Indian in making this country a great place to live in,” said Rajesh Thapa, a volunteer who came from Darjeeling.
