Motihari, Feb. 28: Rajkumari Gupta, the vice-chairperson of Motihari corporation and corporator of ward number nine, has voiced her concern over glaring instances of corruption in the corporation.
The vice-chairperson lamented that despite submitting repeated memorandums about illegal functioning of the corporation to the district administration, no steps in the matter had been initiated.
In a written complaint submitted to the district magistrate, East Champaran, Abhijit Sinha, Gupta has mentioned about the irregularity in construction of a drain in ward number 14 and demanded a probe in the matter. She said the drain was constructed around six years ago and is being reconstructed with the same bricks that were used earlier.
Gupta, in her news release on Sunday, said people of the area were not getting the benefit under below poverty line and above poverty line card.
“The corporation authorities are not supporting the public welfare schemes and defeating Nitish Kumar’s aim of susashan,” she said.
Gupta said: “Several fake vouchers of expenditure are being made by the authorities of the corporation, besides, illegal appointments, promotions and embezzlement of several lakh of public money.”
Appointment of a person on an important financial post in the corporation, whose father was found guilty of financial embezzlement, is another concern for the vice-chairperson.
The corporation chairperson, Prakash Asthana, when asked about the allegations levelled by his deputy, told The Telegraph: “Advice her not to make the corporation a forum of politics.”
He said: “The public are happy with the functioning of the corporation and its work ethos.”
The executive officer of corporation, Rajendra Mandal said: “ The allegations made by Gupta are baseless and prejudiced.”
