The education department will send a fresh draft of the ordinance to appoint vice-chancellors and pro-vice-chancellors of state universities through a search committee to Raj Bhavan for clearance.
The Raj Bhavan rejected the previous draft — which had been passed by both the Assembly and the Council a year back — on Friday, claiming that it did not follow the norms of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Education minister P.K. Shahi on Monday said: “The government will send a fresh ordinance according to the UGC recommendations.”
The principal secretary of the department, Amarjeet Sinha, said: “The ordinance prepared by the education department would have formed a panel comprising representatives of the state government and Raj Bhavan and along with academics and directors of the IITs and the IIMs.”
According to the UGC recommendations, the search committee should comprise one representative each from the government, Raj Bhavan and UGC. There is no mention of including reputable academics in the panel.
