Patna, Dec. 15: The state government has planned to give Rs 400 to each student studying in classes I and II in government schools in the state to buy uniform from the next financial year (2011-12).

Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi made the announcement while reviewing the planned expenditure of the state for the current financial year on Wednesday.

The NDA-I government had already started a scheme of giving Rs 500 to each student of classes III, IV and V and Rs 700 to those in classes V, VII and VIII.

It has also promised to give Rs 250 to children going to anganwadis (non-formal education centres).

During the meeting, it was pointed out that till November this year, the state had spent a little more than Rs 9,058 crore of the proposed plan size of Rs 20,000 crore for the current financial year.

The human resource department had spent 44.78 per cent of its planned expenditure, while the rural development department had spent over 60 per cent of its target. The road construction department has spent over 63 per cent of its planned expenditure.

The officials told Modi that schools and hospitals would be constructed through the newly formed state infrastructure building corporation.

Earlier, the state housing department had expressed its inability to execute such a large number of work.

The deputy chief minister also stressed sending a proposal against “impractical” irrigation schemes sent by the Centre under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme.

Modi stressed that all the officials must ensure that the state fulfils its planned expenditure target of Rs 20,000 crore despite delays and hurdles caused by the prolonged Assembly elections.
