
IIT-Patna is on an expansion mode.
The prestigious institute has decided go beyond just filling up vacant posts of teachers. It would appoint more teachers than the sanctioned number to tide over the possible shortage of faculty when new courses are launched.
This week, IIT-Patna issued an advertisement inviting applications from candidates for appointment as regular and contract teachers according to ministry of human resource development rules. The IIT advertisement is for all its three institutes - school of engineering and technology, school of basic sciences and school of humanities and social sciences. Appointments would be made in the ranks of assistant professor, associate professor and professor.
There are different eligibility criteria for different posts with a PhD being mandatory for all positions. The last date for applying is April 30, 2015.
IIT-Patna registrar Subhash Pandey said: "Apart from filling up existing vacancies, the institute would appoint teachers more than the sanctioned posts so that it doesn't face difficulties after launching new courses when it moves to the permanent campus."
The premier institute, in all likelihood, would move to its new campus in Bihta, around 40km southwest of Patna, by May-end. At present, it is functioning from its transit campus at Patliputra Colony.
The institute at present offers five BTech courses - computer science and engineering, civil and environment engineering, chemical and biochemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and material science engineering. It also offers MTech and PhD programmes.

According to IIT Patna sources, against the sanctioned post of 90 teachers the institute has around 80 teachers with the shortage of around ten teachers.
