Funds nod for teacher salaries

The Bihar government on Tuesday gave its green signal for release of an additional grant of Rs 782 crore towards payment of salary and retirement benefits to teachers and non-teaching staff of state universities.

Patna: The Bihar government on Tuesday gave its green signal for release of an additional grant of Rs 782 crore towards payment of salary and retirement benefits to teachers and non-teaching staff of state universities.

Principal secretary, cabinet secretariat, Brijesh Mehrotra said a decision in this regard was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Nitish Kumar. "The cabinet gave its nod to a proposal to release Rs 782 crore, including Rs 544 crore, for payment of salary and expenditure on other things with regard to teachers and non-teaching staff at state universities between March 2017 and May 2017," Brijesh said.

Of the total amount, Rs 188 crore is for salary and non-salary expenditure pertaining to September 2017 for universities except Jay Prakash University, Chhapra and Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, while Rs 50 crore is for the payment of retirement benefits to former teachers and non-teaching staff of Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga.

The cabinet also decided to establish 14 new fire stations in different parts of the state. Each will have two fire tenders and required firemen. A fire station each will be established in industrial areas at Bela (Muzaffarpur), Jethuli (Hajipur) and Barari (Bhagalpur).

The other fire stations will come up at Fatuha, Patliputra and Sipara (in Patna), Mujahidpur (Bhagalpur), Bhagwanpur (Muzaffarpur), Manpur (Gaya), Laheriasarai (Darbhanga), Chhapra, Jamalpur (Munger), Sonbarsa (Saharsa) and Gulabbagh (Purnea). Permanent posts of fire officials of different levels will be created to man these fire stations.

The cabinet gave its nod to the establishment of "State Ayush Society", which will work under the central government's National Ayush Mission. It will be registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The cabinet also agreed to a labour resources department proposal to establish an "industrial training institute" in Banka district.

It will be established as part of the central government's initiative for skill development in 47 left-wing extremism affected districts.
