Patna, Sept. 15: Lala Singh, a nonagenarian, had fought against the British Raj but now finds it difficult to combat the menace of garbage being dumped in front of his house everyday.
Ninety-three-year-old Lala who took part in the Quit India Movement with Mahatma Gandhi is running from pillar to post after being harassed by his neighbours.
Singh resides at present in a small house at Anisabad and his neighbour has allegedly made his life miserable by dumping garbage in front of his dwelling.
“It has become difficult for me to stay in that house. Every morning, I find a pile of garbage dumped in front of my door. It is difficult to bear the stink. Sometimes, I clean it up myself but I am not physically strong to fight those behind this shameless act. I want to take the help of the district administration,” Singh told The Telegraph.
Lala had come down to the district magistrate (DM) Sanjay Kumar Singh’s janata darbar today.
As soon as Sanjay noticed the old man approaching his table holding a wooden stick in his hand, he said: “Baba aap kyun yahan aate hai? Hum logo ko aap ke paas ana chahiye (Why do you come here baba? We are supposed to visit you).”
Lala replied: “Kya karu beta, aana hi parta hai (Son, what else can I do? I have to come). The problem is serious. Garbage is dumped in front of my house regularly. I have visited the office of the municipal commissioner but it seems he has turned his back to my woes. I don’t want to run here and there any more. Kindly help me out.”
Sanjay said: “I understand your problem but I am not the person to contact. The Patna Municipal Corporation officials are the right people to address the issue. You go home, I will see what I can do for you.”
