Patna, Dec. 1 (PTI): Former director-general of police (DGP) Neelmani today took charge as the member of the Bihar State Human Rights Commission (BSHRC).
Neelmani said he will extend all co-operation to the BSHRC chairman and strive hard to play a constructive and positive role in strengthening the BSHRC for protection of human rights.
Neelmani, who retired as the DGP three months ago, said he will work to bring in improvement in the mechanism so that more and more people could knock the doors of the SHRC to lodge complaint about human rights violation. He said various government departments, like police, heath and labour, will be asked to set in motion reforms and provide training to their employees so that they respect human rights.
Neelmani said institutions like administrative training centres, police training institutes, NGOs and universities will be asked to assist in training programme for the government employees to spread awareness about respecting human rights.
A campaign will also be launched to make people conscious about human rights and forums to complain about violation of human rights for justice, he said.
