Patna: Women entrepreneurs in Bihar will now be able to pitch their business ideas to clients in English to clinch contracts.

Jamie Dragon, director, American Center in Calcutta, on Friday awarded certificates to women entrepreneurs who participated in a three-day English communication workshop.

They were trained by Dieter Bruhn, an English communication expert from the US.

The workshop was organised from September 1 to 3 in partnership with Bihar Entrepreneurs' Association at the BEA's incubation centre in Patna. Fifteen women participated in the workshop.

Director of the American Center-cum-public affairs officer of the US Consulate General in Calcutta, Jamie Dragon, said: "English language is a key area of our work because the entrepreneur's ability to convince investors and potential clients depends upon their communication and presentation skills," Jamie said.

"The participants were taught how to make an effective presentation and business etiquette to pitch a winning business idea in front of investors and clients," said Dieter Bruhn.

Kumari Varsha, 27, who hails from Danapur, said: "We learnt how to pitch our business ideas in front of investors and clients in English. We hope it would benefit in our entrepreneurship endeavours."

Another participant Anju Gupta, who is a resident of Bagaha in West Champaran, said: "The workshop was helpful in terms of enhancing our confidence to speak fluently in front of clients. We learnt how to pitch our ideas in an organised manner to get positive results."

The American Center in Calcutta had been engaged in promotion of English language in Bihar. On February 27 this year, it had launched an English Access Programme at Bihar Vidyapeeth in the state capital to improve English communication abilities among youngsters who belong to economically weaker groups of the state.
