Digital touch to maths lessons

A mathematics lab to simplify the subject for students was inaugurated at Notre Dame Academy on Friday.

Students of classes III to X would benefit from the state-of-the-art lab, which will offer several teaching and learning aids. The Notre Dame Academy has set up the facility in association with “School Learning Solutions” wing of NIIT.

The lab has a capacity to seat 50 girls who can make use of the equipment present to understand mathematics, its different concepts and methodologies better.

Teachers present at the inauguration said the students would be taught concepts of geometry among others with the different softwares present in the lab.

Notre Dame Academy principal Sister Mary Tessy, happy with the initiative, said: “I am glad that the students would now find the subject easier.”

The school’s treasurer, Sister Mary Jancy, said: “The lab will help the children in learning the basics of the subject better.” The teachers, utilising the lab’s equipment, would stay away from traditional methodology in helping students grasp the subject.

Manish Kumar, the territory head of School Learning Solutions wing of NIIT, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, said: “This is the first school where the maths lab has been set up in the city. The facility has been set up according to the CBSE’s guidelines.”

He said: “Around 500 activities can be carried out through the digital mode of learning. For instance, geometry lessons that require the use of the compass can be done at the lab with the help of the geometric sketch pad.”
