DAV makes it to national quiz finals

Patna, Dec. 1: DAV Public School, Khagaul hosted the zonal finals for CBSE-Patna Zone for “CBSE-Heritage India Quiz 2010” on the school premises on Wednesday.

Nine of among more than 100 schools had made it to the zonal finals. DAV Public School, Khagaul has also made it to the national finals to be held at New Delhi on December 7 and December 8. Amritansh Kashyap of Class X, Utkarsh Deepankar of Class XII and Sangam of Class X of the same school will represent CBSE Patna zone now.

The nine best schools of CBSE Patna zone that took part in the event are DAV Public School Cantonment Road, Khagaul, Patna, Delhi Public School, Dhanbad, Delhi Public School, Ranchi, Delhi Public School, Bariatu Road Ranchi, DAV Public School, Bistupur, Jamshedpur, Surendranath Centenary School, Ranchi, St Xavier’s, Hazaribagh and Ramakrishna Vivekananda Vidyamandir, Deoghar.

The quiz today was held in two stages that is the zonal pre-finals and the zonal finals. In the 1st zonal pre-finals, three teams — DAV Khagaul, DPS Patna and DAV Bariatu Road, Ranchi — quizzed with each other in a very tough contest. DAV Khagaul made it through. In the second part, again three teams — Surendranath Centenary School, Ranchi, St Xavier’s Hazaribagh and DPS Ranchi quizzed with each other and DPS emerged the winner. In the 3rd zonal pre-finals, DPS Dhanbad and Ramakrishna Vivekananda Vidyamandir, Deoghar participated and the latter one was the winner. In the zonal mega finals, DAV Khagaul performed very well.

The quiz focused on rich cultural Indian heritage and all the questions dealt with that.

The rounds comprised the audio-visual and buzzer rounds. The quiz was conducted by Calcutta-based quiz master Gautam Bose.

Chief guest Justice Rajendra Prasad of the human rights commission said: “However modern we become, the Vedic culture is the ultimate essence of our lives. Cultural activities as these should be promoted especially in the younger generation.”

School principal A.C. Jain said: “It’s important that our rich heritage is being promoted among the students in this way. Others should also get inspired by this.”
