Cuffs on gang led by beggar

Police in Supaul district on Saturday busted an inter-district gang of vehicle-lifters led by a beggar.

Patna: Police in Supaul district on Saturday busted an inter-district gang of vehicle-lifters led by a beggar.

Identified as Chandan Paswan (28), the beggar used to make a reccé of the spots to select the target and tip off his aides to carry out the task.

Though Paswan, a resident of Pathra village under Pipra police station in Supaul district, had been committing the crime for five years, nobody could suspect him.

Chandan, the kingpin of the gang operating in Supaul and Samastipur districts, had given specific tasks to all members. While he conducted the reccé, Subhash, alias Chhotu, stole the vehicle and drove to their hideout.

Mozahid Alam used to sell those in Nepal, Sampat Lal Yadav was responsible to prepare documents of the stolen vehicles with the connivance of district transport office employees.

Supaul superintendent of police Mritunjay Kumar Choudhary said he set up a special investigation team to crack vehicle-lifting cases.
