Patna, April 2: Officials of district police and the excise department today carried out surprise checks on bootleggers in Vaishali and Darbhanga districts and confiscated a huge quantity of alcohol.
In the first raid, the police seized 321 cartons of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) from a tanker and arrested four men. The consignment being transported from Haryana was to be delivered to a resident of Muzaffarpur.
Hajipur additional superintendent of police (ASP) Rashid Zaman said members of the raiding team also seized Rs 4 lakh from the possession of a man who had come to receive the consignment.
Apart from the tanker, a sports utility vehicle and a motorbike were also seized.
Vaishali superintendent of excise Arvind Kumar said a day earlier, the sleuths of the excise department had recovered around 2,000 litres of IMFL from a container at Mahua, around 30km northeast of Hajipur district headquarters town.
In the second operation, Darbhanga police held four bootleggers with a huge consignment of alcohol.
Darbhanga senior superintendent of police Satyaveer Singh said acting on a tip-off, a police team headed by additional superintendent of police Dilnawaz Ahmad intercepted a vehicle near Dilawarpur (Ganj Bazaar) and seized 224 cartons of IMFL.
