Patna: As the year comes to an end, the last working day of Patna Women's College jingled with Christmas bells on the campus.
The celebration took place in the stage hall in two shifts - 10am to 12noon and 12pm to 2pm. Hollies, mistletoe, candy canes, stars, poinsettia flowers, bells, tinsels and carol playing in the background filled the stage hall with a Christmas aura.
The programme was inaugurated by principal Dr Sister Marie Jessie A.C. and the superior of the Avila Convent, Dr Sister Reema A.C. at 10.15am. The programme started with a classical prayer dance. A skit - Women at the Well - was staged depicting the story of the birth of Christ with an alternative approach, having a fusion of three songs and a classical dance. The play advanced through conversations and gossip among the women who were at the well. It did not only focus on the birth of Jesus but brought forth the scenario of the age and the people, the various events that took place, and the impact of the Roman monarchy. Questions were hurled by the characters directly at the audience.
In the midst of the play, there were musical relief in the form of dance and carols celebrating this season of praise and thanksgiving.
A tribal dance which was a combination of Santhal, Sadari and Nagpuri followed. The dance was a message proclaiming the arrival of Jesus Christ.
The principal said: "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift." She talked about the significance of peace of mind which can be a challenge or a gift. The principal concluded the programme by praying for peace in the world in general and inner peace in particular.
"Shalom aleikhem". Peace be upon you.
