Construction by Buddhist monasteries, hotels, guesthouses and private houses without approved construction plans has come under the scanner of Bodhgaya nagar panchayat.
On Thursday, nagar panchayat executive officer Sanjay Kumar Lal lodged an FIR with Bodhgaya police station against three persons, including in-charge of Bangladesh monastery in Bodhgaya Bhikkhu Kalyan Priya, Bhikkhu Karuna Jyoti and a contractor, Kundan Kumar, accusing them of carrying out construction at the Bangladesh monastery without approved construction plan.
Executive officer Lal said the 3,000sqft roof on the monastery’s first floor has been cast on the monastery campus. The FIR was lodged under sections 184 and 186 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) because the monastery in-charge failed to produce the approved construction plan. Section 184 deals with obstructing sale of property offered for sale by authority of public servant, while Section 186 deals with obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions.
The nagar panchayat has also drawn up a list of 19 holding tax defaulters on whom notices are being served. Nyingma monastery tops the list with Rs 24.63 lakh outstanding taxes, Wat Thai Rs 5.76 lakh and Sechen Rs 1.18 lakh.
Nagar panchayat chairperson Preeti Singh said monasteries should provide details of their campus infrastructure and details of visitors.
