Patna: Residents of Kursela in Katihar district were deeply shocked on Monday morning when bodies of two unidentified girls were discovered at Ganga ghat near Khairia village. One of the girls seemed to be around three, while the other was around six years old.
Katihar SP Vikash Kumar told The Telegraph that a case of unnatural death has been lodged and investigations have been launched to identify the girls.
"We have come to know that a woman in Naugachhia police district had jumped into the Ganga with her two daughters to commit suicide after a tiff with her husband. She was rescued, but her daughters went missing." Vikash said the police was probing this aspect too. He ruled out molestation of the children. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
A huge crowd of onlookers and residents assembled at the ghat where the bodies were found and discussed the bad condition of the bodies.
Kursela police station in-charge Sudeshwar Sharma said, prima facie, the bodies seemed to have drowned at least a day or two ago.
"Both bodies had bloated and some animal or water being seemed to have eaten the leg of a girl. Another's face was scratched badly. There were no clothes on their bodies," Sudeshwar said.
Two crude bombs were recovered from the railway tracks on the Barsoi (Katihar)-Raiganj railway section in Bengal.
