Patna, Oct. 9: Determined to make L.K. Advani’s public meeting at Gandhi Maidan on October 11 a historic affair, the state BJP leaders have started hosting street meetings to mobilise people for the event.

The street meetings started yesterday. Around one hundred such meetings would be convened by Monday.

Advani’s meeting at Gandhi Maidan on the birth anniversary of late Jaya Prakash Narayan is a part of his Jan Chetana Yatra, which he is undertaking with a message of clean politics and good governance.

The state party unit is also geared up to accord a warm welcome to Advani during his visit to the state capital.

“Advaniji will reach Patna from Chhapra around 2pm. The party workers will greet him as soon as his cavalcade crosses the Mahatma Gandhi Setu and reaches near Dhanuki More,” senior BJP leader and Bihar road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav told reporters today after inspecting the preparations at Gandhi Maidan where Advani and the JD(U) national president, Sharad Yadav, would address a public meeting.

Senior BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley would also deliver speech at the meeting.

Yadav said the party has decided to erect 84 gates across the city to welcome Advani, who would turn 84 this year.

The BJP workers would also organise several programmes on October 12, when Advani would leave the city.

Sharing details of Advani’s Bihar itinerary, Yadav said the senior BJP leader would reach the city around 9.15am by a chartered aircraft on October 11. He would leave for Sitab Diara in a chopper from the airport itself. Chief minister Nitish Kumar would accompany him to flag off the Chetana Yatra.

The duo would address a meeting at Chhapra at 11am. The public meeting in the state capital would follow at 3pm.

On the second day of his Yatra, Advani would address three public meetings in Bihar — at Ara, Buxar and Ramgarh. Thereafter, the Uttar Pradesh lap of Advani’s Yatra would commence.

As the Sitab Diara village is facing floods this year, senior BJP leaders Sushil Kumar Modi and Radha Mohan Singh paid a visit to the village today to assess the ground situation.

Justifying the selection of Bihar for launching Advani’s Yatra, Yadav said late Jaya Prakash Narayan had launched his famous movement in 1974 from the state. The selection of this state to launch the Yatra would send a good message to people.

“The NDA government in the state has set an example before the country by waging a war against corruption. It has also done a commendable work by introducing the Right to Service Act, which guarantees delivery of certain services to people in a stipulated time. Keeping these facts in mind, Bihar fits the bill for launch of the Yatra aimed to weed out corruption from the country,” he added.
