Patna: A Begusarai police team seized over 1,000 bottles of liquor on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the team attached to the Phulwaria police station in the district intercepted a truck on National Highway 28 carrying bags of potato. The cops found 425 cartons of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL), believed to be from Haryana. This is the biggest seizure in the district since prohibition was clamped on the state in April last year.
The consignment was being delivered to a liquor mafia operating in Begusarai and Samastipur districts, the cops said. Begusarai superintendent of police (SP) Aditya Kumar said the person arrested - Karim, a resident of Bhiwani in Haryana - revealed the consignment was meant to meet the Diwali demand.
Over 350 cartons of Punjab-made IMFL were seized from Nima Chandpura village in the district on October 7 this year.
That consignment, being transported in a truck bearing a Nagaland registration number, was found abandoned on the Ajhor-Taraiya road.
