Students of Jai Prakash University would soon be greeted by a host of changes in its infrastructure.
Swimming pool
Students of the university who love swimming have a lot to look forward to in the next couple of years. A swimming pool will be constructed on the university premises at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore.
University vice-chancellor Ram Vinod Sinha said: “A world-class swimming pool will be constructed at a cost of Rs 2 crore. The syndicate has approved the project.” He said the swimming pool is expected to be completed in 2013.
University Grants Commission (UGC) had given the funds for the purpose to Prithvi Chad Science College, which did not have a land of its own to construct the swimming pool. The college administration requested the university authorities to set up the swimming pool and they, in turn, agreed and passed the proposal in a recently held syndicate meeting. UGC has also given its consent to this project.
Food corner
Students who come to the university from far-flung places in the district would no longer have to worry about their lunch or tiffin. A canteen will be constructed on the university premises in the next six months.
Sinha told The Telegraph on Wednesday that “Rs 25 lakh has been sanctioned for the construction of a canteen on the university premises. The state government has already given the funds for the purpose. The canteen would be located near the administrative building. The canteen with the capacity of 50 persons, would be constructed in the next six months,” he said.
So far, there were no proper food facilities in and around the university.
Examination centres
The state government has sanctioned Rs 3 crore for the construction of an examination hall on the university premises and the money has been received. The state government has also given a green light to the vice-chancellor for the proposal for constructing three examination centres at all the district headquarters at Saran, Siwan and Gopalganj at a cost of Rs 3 crore each. Sources in the university said they expect to receive the funds for the purpose soon.
“Construction of the examination centres will be of great help to the students, who have faced difficulties owing to the lack of space. This will also help the university administration to conduct the examinations effectively,” Sinha said.
