Nalanda police rescued two persons, including a teacher of a Bhopal university, from the clutches of abductors from Noorsarai area of the district on Monday. Two persons were arrested in the case.
Police said S.S. Pawar, a teacher of SRK University, Bhopal, and his acquaintance, Balram Saha, were allegedly abducted for ransom from a hotel on Sunday. The abductors had demanded Rs 3 lakh for their safe release.
Nalanda superintendent of police Vivekanand said acting on a tip off, a police team led by Biharsharif town station house officer Rajesh Kumar Sharma, conducted a raid on a coaching institute under the jurisdiction of Noorsarai police station and recovered the duo.
Two persons, identified as Shashi Ranjan Kumar and Lallan Kumar, residents of Nalanda and Jamui districts respectively, were nabbed during the police operation. Six persons have been made named accused in the FIR lodged on the statement of the victims, added the Nalanda superintendent of police .
Shashi and Lallan, however, claimed that they were being implicated in the case. The two Bhopal residents had taken money from a group of residents in 2013 on the pretext of facilitating their admission in reputed academic institutions.
The SP said the police had swung into action after the relatives of the victims informed him over the phone from Bhopal. The relatives alleged that both Pawar and Saha, who had gone to Nalanda for some work, had been abducted for ransom.
The victims had told their families that they had checked in at a Biharsharif hotel on Saturday.
Shashi Ranjan and Lallan contacted them on the pretext of some important work and took them to an unknown destination. Later, they realised that they had been held captive.
They alleged that the abductors confined them to a house in Dhaneshwar Ghat in Noorsarai and beat them up. They also threatened them with dire consequences when the family members informed the police about the incident.
"It is because of swift action of the police that we are safe and alive now," Pawar said.
The statements of the rescued duo were recorded in a Biharsharif court on Monday. Thereafter, Pawar and Saha left for Bhopal.
He, however, refused to share more details about the incident. Both the victims were provided medical treatment at a local government hospital after their release from the clutches of the abductors.
A police officer, who was part of the raiding team, confided that the abductors were earlier involved in several cases of extortion in Nalanda district.
"Raids are on to arrest other members of the gang involved in the crime," he added.
The senior police officers heaved a sigh of relief after the safe release of the captive men.
