Patna, Jan. 10: Now, think twice before dumping garbage at will.
In case your neighbour spots your "dirtying habit" and alerts the municipal corporation about this, you will end up paying a penalty to the municipal corporation.
Patna Municipal Corporation has come out with a draft of on-the-spot fine bylaws that will allow civic officials to impose fine on residents found littering the streets.
A standing committee meeting on Tuesday, which PMC commissioner Abhishek Singh, mayor Afzal Imam and other officials attended, took the decision. Commissioner Singh said the decision would come into force after seven to 10 days.
While residents and makeshift stall owners have to pay Rs 100 as fine if caught dumping garbage at will, the amount of penalty will range between Rs 200 and Rs 500 for small and big business establishments.
PMC is also going to engage a task force in every circle, which would roam the streets and penalise the offenders.
The distinctive uniform of the force personnel will make them easily identifiable.
"Residents can inform the sanitary inspector or the task force of the circle concerned if they find some violator. The official concerned will visit the site and penalise the offender."
"The idea is to penalise the offender and also discourage people from dumping waste in the open. The contract term of the private agency (which engaged around 850 labourers) and the additional 800 labourers hired by PMC for Prakash Utsav would end on January 15. We want to keep our city spick and span even after this. So this decision has been taken," said Singh.
PMC is going to flash the numbers of the officials concerned at various nooks and corners of the city.
"Around 1,000 steel dustbins will be installed at various points. The numbers of important officials would be displayed on the dustbins so that residents can inform about violators on those numbers," said the mayor.
In another major decision, PMC will keep 350 of the 800 additional workers it had engaged for Prakash Utsav, for sanitation work in the city.
PMC had posted 20 mobile toilets at various points during Prakash Utsav. It will post 20 more soon.
A decision regarding this was also taken in Tuesday's meeting. More water kiosks, equipped with reverse osmosis technology and cooler system, will be installed around Patna.
