Patna, Jan. 5: The Patna police headquarters has directed all the deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) to act and act fast.
All the DSPs in the state capital have been asked to prepare a detailed list of pending cases of those chargesheeted, within 24 hours.
They have also been asked to look through the cases awaiting police and issue of character certificates of those who have applied for passports within their respective jurisdiction and submit them by January 8.
The reports would be closely studied in a meeting with the officers on that day and the service book grading of the DSPs for the 2010-2011 will depend as to how perfect the reports are.
Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) B.S. Meena told The Telegraph: “Different police stations in Patna have a number of cases pending and the DSPs of the respective areas need to ensure that the backlog is cleared. There should be no unnecessary delay.”
The DSPs in the state capital are DSP town, law and order, Phulwari, Patna City, Sadar, Fatuha and DSP Paliganj. The officers have also been directed to ensure that criminals wanted and absconding in important and sensational cases be nabbed at any cost, Meena said
“The fact remains that several cases are pending at different police stations and the progress is rather slow in most of them. The DSPs are the ones who are responsible for their respective jurisdictions. They need to ensure that things are working fine in their areas. A meeting with them is scheduled on January 8 and they have been asked to come prepared for it,” Meena said.
Sources in the police office said there were many cases of passport verification pending with each of the police station at present.
The police have been asked to verify the address of those applying for a passport, check their backgrounds and file a report their characters, whether they have any cases against him.
Sources said recently directions were issued from the headquarters that a maximum time of a week needs to be taken for preparing such details.
The meeting will also scan the same asking the DSPs to show as to how many passport-related issues have been facilitated.
The promotion and perks of any officer including the DSP is based on his or her service book grading, which is recommended by the SSP.
. They have got a maximum of five days to keep things intact, as it would affect their service book, the sources said.
Chargesheets regarding cases of eve-teasing would have to be prepared within 24 hours.
“There are some important cases of crime in which arrests are required. The DSPs have been asked to ensure that the officer-in-charge of the police stations under their jurisdiction act fast and investigate the cases in a proper manner. The sensational abduction and murder of 10-year-old Amarjeet on December 24 also has a hole with the mastermind still at large. Instructions have been given to the officer-in-charge to arrest him within 10 days,” a police official said.
