Motihari, Jan. 20: More than a week has passed since 16-year-old Gautam Kumar was abducted on January 11 but cops are still clueless about his whereabouts.

Gautam, a Class XI student of New Pashupati Vidyalaya at Raxaul, went missing after he was allegedly kidnapped after he had gone to purchase vegetables from a market on January 11 evening. He, along with his two sisters, reside in the railway quarters with his widowed mother, Tara Devi, who was appointed to the Grade IV post of lower division porter on compassionate grounds after her husband’s death. The kidnappers have although started making phone calls from the same number 8804016589, almost every day for ransom from January 13. The sub-inspector of Raxaul, Sanjay Singh heard a ransom call after which Raxaul GRP filed a case of missing.

Tara Devi told The Telegraph despite sufficient proof of kidnapping and the repeated phone calls for ransom money, police have registered a different case in the matter.

The Raxaul police said the application received from Tara Devi has been sent to the GRP for an FIR, while station house officer of Raxaul GRP, Suresh Prasad said case number 11/2011 under Section 64 (A) has been instituted and probe has been initiated.

When contacted Raxaul sub-divisional police officer, Rajiv Ranjan told The Telegraph: “Although the case has been registered with the GRP, the police is involved in the investigation of the matter from different angles.” He added the police are not convinced that the number from which abductors are making ransom calls are not unknown to the family.
