38 police stations on Red alert

Muzaffarpur, March 18: More than 38 police stations across eight Naxalite-hit districts have been asked to stay on a high alert following threats of a Naxalite outburst.

The policemen at all these stations have been told of an impending threat from the rebels, who are waiting for an opportunity to take revenge of the killing of the six Maoists in an encounter at Darmaha village under Kesariya police station in Motihari.

Secretary of the North Bihar Western Zonal Committee of the CPI (Maoist) Kumar Parhar told The Telegraph that the outfit has called for a bandh on March 22 in the districts having a Naxalite stronghold in North Bihar to avenge the killing of the six top activists. Parhar has threatened of heavy bloodshed in north Bihar in the days to come.

The rebel threat has sent shivers down the spine of the police officials in north Bihar. Deputy inspector-general of police (Tirhut) Bacchu Singh Meena held a high-level review meeting with senior superintendent of police (SSP) Muzaffarpur, and the SPs of Maoist-affected Vaishali, Sitamarhi and Sheohar districts and discussed the full security measures and preparedness to tackle a possible Naxalite outburst.

The DIG has directed to increase the existing strength of cops into sensitive police stations located at vulnerable areas. He has instructed the station house officers (SHOs) to set up a sudden ambush and intensive patrolling into the vulnerable and sensitive areas.

Personnel of state auxiliary police and the contingents of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been stationed at the police stations of the districts including Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Sitamarhi, Motihari, Sheohar, Gopalganj, Siwan, Chhapra and Bettiah districts of north Bihar region.

Meena told The Telegraph there should be police cordons and search operations in the districts, to flush out the rebels hiding in the hideouts. Special branch of State Intelligence Bureau has alerted the zonal IG, DIG (Tirhut) and the SPs of the districts in north Bihar to make necessary arrangements at the police stations.
