Trinamul's Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen allegedly abused and threatened to slap a civic police volunteer on Friday morning.

Reason? The volunteer had stopped her beacon-fitted white Scorpio at the Chinar Park crossing in New Town as it was moving down the wrong flank.

Sen, however, told Metro: "Nothing happened. My driver may have made some mistake, which was pointed out by a traffic constable. There is no question of lodging any complaint against anybody."

Around 10.30am, Sen was going to New Town from the Loknath Mandir end of Rajarhat Main Road when her driver switched flanks to bypass a snarl, an officer said.

At the Chinar Park crossing, Bibhas Saha, the volunteer, stopped the vehicle and asked the driver to shift to the correct flank. The driver apparently told Saha that the vehicle belonged to the Trinamul MP but he did not relent.

"I don't need to know that. Get on to the right flank. I will not allow you to go down this flank," one of Saha's colleagues quoted him as telling Sen's driver.

On hearing this, Sen, who was sitting beside the driver, lost her cool and told Saha that she would not change flanks, he said. " Ami ekhan diye ei jabo (I will drive down this flank only)," a witness Metro spoke to quoted Sen as having told Saha.

When Saha did not budge, Sen allegedly abused him and threatened to take "appropriate action" against him.

"The MP called a sub-inspector who was present at the crossing and instructed him to punish Saha for insulting her," an officer of Baguiati police station who spoke to Saha and the sub-inspector later in the day said. "She suggested that Saha hold his ears and do squats. She even threatened to slap him."

Saha did not do the squats and just stood there, following which Sen took down his details on a piece of paper and left the spot.

Sen, according to the witness, said before leaving: " Ami immediately byabostha korchi apnar (I will immediately teach you a lesson)."

In February 2012, Sen had been accused of slapping a toll plaza employee on Vivekananda Setu when he had diverted a goods vehicle carrying decoration material for the wedding of labour minister Purnendu Basu in Uttarpara.

In January, Trinamul MP Prasun Banerjee had allegedly slapped a constable for stopping his car from making a U-turn at the Lake Town crossing on VIP Road.

When Metro visited the Chinar Park-Rajarhat Main Road crossing on Friday afternoon, Saha was not present there. A colleague said he had been taken off duty immediately after the incident.

Calls to Saha's cell phone went unanswered throughout Friday.

Shivani Tiwari, the deputy commissioner (traffic), Bidhannagar Commisionerate, said: "We have not received any complaint from either side. But we are finding out what happened there."
