Having just put to rest the self-produced Janmadata, actor Prosenjit is all set to usher in yet another trend in Bengali cinema.
So claimed the Badshah (one of his recent super hits) of Tollywood, who is once again in his ?second home? to shoot two films ? one ?Yash-Chopra-type? Ek palake Ektu Dekha and the other a murder-mystery-thriller-comedy Rajmahal, which he said would rewrite the ?no-so-flexible? Tollywood rules, once again.
The yet-to-be-released Janmadata and Criminal, his latest hit, were both shot here.
?There has not been much work done in this genre (thriller) in Bengali cinema,? said the actor, pointing to a trend that had taken off in Bollywood quite some time ago.
Dressed in a red T-shirt and a navy-blue bermudas, ?very much like the good-humoured, unconventional and highly successful psychiatrist who lands up in a remote Bengal village shot at Sahudangi near New Jalpaiguri,? (his role in Rajmahal), Prosenjit hoped the trend would work wonders in Bengal too.
Though Rachana Banerjee is there to lend her charms, the Swapan-Saha directed film is no love story. Rather it is the remake of a super-hit Malayali film made by none other than the legendary Mohan Lal himself.
?The original Malayalam film was a mega-hit, and so was its Tamil remake, made by another big name Rajanikant,? the 270-film-old hero said, relaxing in a suite of a hotel in the town while explaining why he expects the film, whose shooting started in Siliguri yesterday, to do well.
Describing Ek Palake....., he said: ?It is a romantic film, typically Yash Chopra-kind, and will be shot in Sikkim as well.? ?Yash Chopra is my personal favourite,? he said.
?Both films are different from the usual Tollywood stuff, but given that they are commercial ventures, we have had to stick to the basic conventions of Bengali movies,?he added.
Shooting for Rajmahal in the day and Shankar Roy-directed and Pritam Jalan-produced Ek Palake? in the evening ? that is how the going has been for the undisputed king of Tollywood.
But shooting in the lush green locales of the ?natural film city ? (surrounded by tea gardens, villages and the Dooars) takes much of the pressure off the actor.
?I feel so comfortable shooting here,? Prosenjit said, adding with an unmistakable glint in his eyes, ?this place never fails to fascinate me. Though I have been here umpteen times, I feel as wonderful as I had when I came here for the first time.?
The man, who had been lending his voice to the demand for a film city in Siliguri since a long time, added: ?This is a beautiful region and it needs a film city at the earliest. Once the basic infrastructure is in place, more productions will be encouraged to come here and shoot. That will benefit the region as well.?
?We are holding talks with municipal affairs minister, Asok Bhattacharya, for a long time regarding this and hope to see our demand take concrete shape in the near future.?
