
Calcutta: The smog in Delhi delayed flights and trains to and from Calcutta on Thursday.
Four Calcutta-bound flights from Delhi were delayed in the morning and the afternoon, while six left the city behind schedule. Airport officials said the delays were caused by the smog that affected visibility in Delhi.
A Jet Airways flight from Delhi that was scheduled to land in Calcutta at 4.35am touched down around 5am.
In the afternoon, Jet Airways, SpiceJet and IndiGo flights were delayed by 30-45 minutes, airport officials said.
The delays affected the departure of Delhi-bound flights from Calcutta.
An IndiGo flight for the national capital that was scheduled to take off at 6.05am finally left the city at 6.49am. A Jet Airways took off at 8.41am, almost two hours behind schedule.
The delays continued till the afternoon because of the ripple effect, an airport official said. An IndiGo airline flight which was to take off at 1.05pm left at 1.56pm.
The trains to and from Delhi were affected, too.
Thursday's Malda-Delhi Farakka Express was cancelled. The train was to leave Malda at 7.10pm.
The departure of several trains from Howrah, Sealdah and other stations in Bengal have been postponed because their corresponding trains from Delhi were running several hours behind schedule.
The departure of Friday's Poorva Express, which was to leave Howrah at 8.05am, has been postponed to 1.25pm. The Jammu Tawi Express, which was to leave Chitpur station at 11.45am, will chug out at 3.20pm.
Thursday's Kalka Mail left after 2am, instead of 7.40pm.
