Language was the focus at Rang Sansriti ’13 hosted by St. Xavier’s Collegiate School, in association with You and The Telegraph.
Fr. Benny Thomas S.J. lit the inaugural lamp as he welcomed the 10 participating schools and wished them luck.
The inter-school quiz on the greats of Bengal saw the hosts emerge winners, followed by Modern High School for Girls. “We didn’t do well in the initial rounds but picked up points in the last few rounds. I got to know lesser-known facts about the city and its rich cultural heritage,” said Sayan Chakraborty, a Class XI student at St. Xavier’s.
The topic for creative writing in both Hindi and Bengali was Mankind, One for Each Other. Participants, two from each school, had to write an original piece of prose or poetry in an hour.
In the spirit of the festival, the music event was restricted to Indian classical music and no electronic instruments were allowed.
Day 2 saw students put up one-act plays. “It’s been an enlightening experience. What the students did is remarkable. I’m glad the youth think on such lines,” said Usha Ganguly, theatre veteran and a judge at the event.
