Karate stars

Bhubaneswar emerged champion in the 28th State Senior Karate Championship organised by the Odisha State Karate Association at Utkal Karate School recently. About 200 participants from 18 districts had taken part in the event. The selected participants from the championship will take part at a national karate championship to be held on February 25 and 26.

Select six   

Six women rugby players from the state have been selected for the national team, which will take part in the Asian Women's Sevens Trophy to be held at Vientiane in Laos on Friday and Saturday. The players are Subhalaxmi Barik, Laxmipriya Sahoo, Sanjukta Munda, Meerarani Hembram, Hupi Majhi and Bhagya Laxmi Barik. They were selected during a national selection camp in Mumbai. The state women rugby players emerged champion at the first Federation Cup Rugby Championship in Bhubaneswar recently.

Golf tourney 

The Sixteenth Invitational Rotary Golf Tournament organised by the Rotary Club, Bhubaneswar concluded on the Bhubaneswar Golf Club premises recently. Altogether 112 golfers took part in various categories at the three-day long event. 

The Best Gross award was given to Shaunak Parikh, the champion of 0-18 category was Ajay Negi.

Mr Odisha

Anil Gochhikar of Puri bagged Mr Odisha title in the Senior State Bodybuilding Championship at Nabarangpur recently. Altogether 225 bodybuilders from 25 districts had taken part in the event. The district body building association and the Odisha Bodybuilding Association jointly organised the event. A number of bodybuilders from across the state were present during the event to encourage the upcoming bodybuilders.

Football frenzy

The Adarsh Football Club hosted a two-day football tournament on the Ravenshaw University ground in Cuttack recently. 

The final match was played between the Sangharsh Club and the Bidanasi Club. Sangharsh won the match in a sudden death. 

It was awarded with running trophy and a cash reward of Rs 21,000, while the runners-up was awarded with running trophy and a cash reward of Rs 15,000. 

Top eight teams of the twin cities took part in the meet. Jagnath Maharana of Sangharsh was conferred the Player of the Tournament award.

Young guns

The Football Association of Odisha conducted the Grassroots Football Festival on the Bidanasi playground on February 11. 

About 80 children (both boys and girls) took part in the event, in which they got training on the sport. 

Kids from the Bidanasi Grassroots Centre, St Xaviers High School Grassroots Centre and the Jaydurga Club took part in the event. 

Four football coaches were present at the festival to train the participants.
