The Tripura Puppet Theatre on Saturday celebrated World Puppet Day with a video on YouTube to spread awareness on coronavirus.

Prabhitangshu Das, a Tripura-based puppeteer and a programme executive at Doordarshan, said, “Every year on March 21 we observe World Puppetry Day but this year we had to cancel our event as a precaution against the coronavirus. We thought of organising street puppet shows but couldn’t do so as Section 144 is in force across the state to avoid mass gathering. So we chose social media to observe World Puppet Day.”

The 1.11-minute awareness video by Tripura Puppet Theatre has been produced in the Bengali language with English subtitles.

“In the video, we have tried to portray a story where a man coughs and has flu-like symptoms and is advised by his family to consult a doctor. The doctor informs them about the disease and gives a set of advisories on ways to avoid contracting it. It ends with the slogan ‘Stay Clean and Hygienic’. I have made all the puppets in the video,” Das said.
