Congress vice-president R. Lalzirliana, who recently resigned from the state cabinet, will be officially inducted into the Mizo National Front (MNF) on Monday, party sources said.

MNF youth wing vice-president Lalremruata Chhangte told The Telegraph that Lalzirliana would be formerly inducted into the MNF on Monday as he submitted resignation as a legislator.

Lalzirliana resigned from Lal Thanhawla’s cabinet on September 14, three days after he was served a showcause notice by the party high command because of alleged anti-party activities.

He was expelled from the party on September 17.

Lalzirliana also resigned as a legislator on Friday and finally decided to join the MNF.

He said he would contest the upcoming Assembly polls on an MNF ticket.

Sources said Lalzirliana will contest from Tawi, the constituency he represented for four consecutive terms since 1998.

Chhangte also said the MNF would release the names of official candidates for the Assembly polls on October 22.

He said the party has finalised the candidates and launched a campaign in different parts of the state.

The MNF will contest all the 40 Assembly seats and not forge a pre-poll alliance with any party.

The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), an electoral alliance formed by seven parties, would also announce the names of its candidates on October 24.

Its secretary general, K Sapdanga, said the alliance official candidate will be announced in a function to be held at Aizawl Press Club on October 24.

The candidate will be asked to take pledge after release of the name, he said.
