Now you can not only put up in a bamboo hut in Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, but also gorge on organic food.

Agro-entrepreneur and founder of M'ma Farm Santosh Sharma has set up 25 bamboo huts in his sprawling 100-acre farm in Dalma forest range, some 20km from Jamshedpur, which will be thrown open to tourists and picnickers from the middle of this month.

“We are currently in the process of giving finishing touches to the huts and hope to get them decked up by the middle of the month. In the first phase, we have made 25 huts with attached washrooms for the elderly, couples and bachelors. There is also the option of ultra-luxury huts,” Sharma said.

The huts with mud floors and thatched roofs do not have AC or refrigerator facilities.

Only the ultra-luxury huts will have tiled floors.

“We want people to stay closer to the nature. The thatched roofs made of hay and bamboo will keep the huts warm during winter and cool during summer. We do not intend to install ACs or refrigerators in the rooms. Water will be provided in earthen pitchers with copper glasses,” Sharma said.

Guests will be served food prepared from organic vegetables grown in the farm and organic milk.

“We will allow visitors to pluck vegetables and fruits from our farm so that they get to know the difference in taste between organic food and those available in the market,” Sharma added.

Visitors can also engage in activities such as rock climbing, trekking and yoga.

Bookings can be done online or over phone.

“We will soon provide the booking link on our website www.mmawithlove.com or over phone (9031730990). We are in the process of fixing tariff for the different types of huts,” Sharma added.

Incidentally, M’ma Farm has started providing high fibre, high protein and low fat breakfast on the doorstep for schoolchildren and office-goers from November this year.

The farm had carved a niche for itself in 2016 by bringing organic vegetables and milk produced in Dalma villages to the doorstep of urban residents.

It provides pure milk from Dutch cows that munch on fresh organic feed grown in Dalma and organic vegetables raised with cow dung-based vermicompost.

At present, the state forest department provides bamboo hut facility at Makulakocha near the main entry point of the Dalma sanctuary.

The tariff for one night stay at the AC bamboo cottage is Rs 1,100 and non-AC cottage is Rs 600. Food is available at the cafeteria near the huts.
