After I-League, the virus has struck ISL too.

Saturday’s match between ATK Mohun Bagan and Odisha FC was postponed after a player from the Juan Ferrando-coached side tested positive for Covid-19. The match was to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda.

“Hero Indian Super League (ISL) has decided to postpone Match No. 53 between ATK Mohun Bagan and Odisha FC scheduled to be played today, Saturday, January 8, 2022, at PJN Stadium in Fatorda.

“The decision has been taken in consultation with the League’s medical team after an ATK Mohun Bagan player tested positive for Covid-19,” the ISL said in a statement.

“The league will look to reschedule the fixture to a later date. The ISL will work closely with the medical experts to monitor and ensure the safety of all the players and support staff in the squad and others involved.”

It has been learnt tests are being done everyday due to the festive season and it remains to be seen if some more cases emerge from the ATK Mohun Bagan camp.

Last season, ISL did not record a single Covid-19 case even though Jamshedpur FC survived a scare after one of the hotel staff inside the bio-bubble returned positive.

Like last season, this time also, ISL is being held behind closed doors, across three stadiums in Goa.

Last week, the I-League was suspended for six weeks after a Covid-19 outbreak in one of the three bio-bubbles.
