Diptayan is sole leader 

Mumbai: Grandmaster Diptayan Ghosh maintained his good form to defeat compatriot and International Master Shyam Nikhil and emerge as the sole leader at the end of the 7th round of the Mumbai Mayor's International Open Chess Tournament. Diptayan is leading with 6.5 points, followed by the second seed GM Boris Grachev of Russia, Himal Gusain of India and Amanatov Farrukh of Tajikistan all with six points apiece.

ITTF rankings

New Delhi: Soumyajit Ghosh, Sharath Kamal, Mouma Das and Manika Batra have shown considerable improvement in their world rankings. According to the latest ITTF rankings, Ghosh has jumped four places to be at No. 61 from No. 65 while Sharath Kamal is now No. 69. Manika Batra has moved 13 places up the ladder to be at 115. Mouma is now No. 145 in the world ranking, thus gaining 13 places.

Tennis meet

Calcutta: Amaan Wasim and Koyna Sircar have won the boys' and girls' U-16 titles, respectively, in the BTA Talent Series (3) tournament, here on Tuesday. Md Rasheduddin and Maya Rani Dutta emerged champions in the boys' and girls' U-12 events, respectively.

Tintu second

New Delhi: Rio -bound Tintu Luka ran her season's best of 2:00.61 to win a silver in 800m in the Josef Odlozil Memorial Athletics Meet in Prague in Czech Republic on Monday. Tinty was second behind Anita Hinriksdottir of Iceland, who ran 2:0054 at the Czech capital.

Joint effort

Calcutta: In an effort to scout players for the U-16 national team presently preparing for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, the All India Football Federation in collaboration with Sports Authority of India (SAI) has launched a global scouting programme. The programme, named the SAI-AIFF Overseas Scouting Project (OSP), will kick off with on-field trials in Dubai on June 10-11 for 2000 & 2001 born boys residing in the UAE and nearby states/ countries.

Super League

Calcutta: Bhowanipore Club got three points by virtue of their first-innings lead against Tollygunge Agragami in the Super League match which concluded on Tuesday. Bhowanipore have also qualified for the Super League final.
