Coimbatore: Chennai City FC and Neroca FC played out a goalless draw, here on Tuesday. Hosts Chennai City lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with the duo of Soosai Raj and Murilo Almeida in the attack. On the other hand, Gift Raikhan opted for a similar formation which saw Nedo Turkovic paired with Nigeria-born Felix Chidi up-front.
V Soundararajan's side kicked off action early in the game as Vanspaul was fed the ball on the left wing before he squared it for Soosairaj which saw the 23-year-old release a shot wide of goal, in the second minute. While the hosts preferred building their chances from the middle, Neroca seemed to opt for long balls for their strikers to connect with, inside the box.
In the 33rd minute, the crowd witnessed chaos inside the Neroca box, when Soosairaj delivered a long throw-in which saw a header off Charles being poorly cleared by defender Kallon. Following his sloppy move, the ball reached Murilo who was tackled by Williams to obstruct his attempt on the goal.
Although Chennai City seemed in better control of the proceedings, a firm defensive performance from Neroca meant that the two teams walked off the pitch at the break goalless. The second half saw an early chance from the hosts as Charles released a shot from long range after Fabien gifted the ball to Chennai's midfielder. However, his delivery landed safely into the hands of the Neroca goalkeeper.
The game ended in a goalless draw. The result meant Chennai now have 9 points in their kitty while Neroca have 15. Agencies
