Benoni: Herschelle Gibbs failed by three runs to score a world record fourth consecutive century as South Africa thrashed Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the second ODI Sunday.

Gibbs was stranded on 97 not out, scored off 66 balls with 19 fours, as South Africa went past Bangladesh’s total in 20.2 overs to clinch the three-match series.

South Africa were 149 without loss with Gibbs facing on 96 when Alok Kapali sent down a wide delivery.

Gibbs made 116 against Kenya and 116 retired against India in the Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka. He followed that up with a career best 153 in the first match of the series in Potcheftroom on Thursday, which South Africa won by 168 runs.
