Calcutta: Dr Mtutuzeli Nyoka, the Cricket South Africa (CSA) president, is set to be removed from his position on Saturday afternoon, bringing an end to the war within which has been raging for well over a year.
While six of the 11 provincial associations affiliated to CSA have announced that they will support the motion of no-confidence moved by the powerful Members’ Forum, The Telegraph learns that four of the remaining five are also going to vote with the majority.
As of Thursday evening, Dr Nyoka only had the support of Northerns.
Boland, Easterns, Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng and Western Province have gone public with their opposition to Dr Nyoka; Border, Griqualand West, KwaZulu-Natal and North West will eventually support the motion as well.
With his fate sealed, Dr Nyoka may not even attend the special Board meeting on Saturday. It’s going to be held either at a premier hotel in Johannesburg or at a special area in the international airport.
Dr Nyoka had been ‘removed’ in February itself, but made a quick comeback as those opposed to him hadn’t plugged all loopholes of a legal kind.
This time, CSA chief executive Gerald Majola, who has played the biggest behind-the-scenes role, is understood to have taken “all precautions.”
For a motion of no-confidence to be carried, a two-thirds majority is required. As things stand, just about everybody wants Dr Nyoka, an ENT specialist, out of CSA.
An acting president is expected to be appointed on Saturday itself.
