Berhampur: A woman has been accused of moonlighting for four years and drawing salaries for both the posts. After the matter came to light, the Gajapati district vigilance unit has started a probe into the case.

Vigilance officials said that for four years Saudamini Maharana worked as an anganwadi worker at Khalingi village in Ganjam district, while simultaneously drawing salary as a demonstrator at Mahendragiri College at Ramgiri in Gajapati district.

"We have formed two teams who would verify various documents both at Sanakhemundi block and Mahendragiri College to ascertain the facts," said DSP, vigilance Gajapati, Surendra Nath Panigrahi. He said the college principal had been asked to reply to a few questions.

Sources said according to college records, Maharana was working as a demonstrator. She was appointed to the post in 2001 and her name continues to be there in the attendance register.

"To verify her status as an anganwadi worker, we are also verifying the records in the office of the CDPO Sanakhemundi block in Ganjam district," Panigrahi said.

"Saudamini joined as an anganwadi worker in 2009 and left the job in 2013. She was getting Rs 4,000 as salary every month. The vigilance sleuths have asked me to recover the salary amount from Saudamini Maharana," said Surekha Sundari Mallick, the present CDPO of Sanakhemundi.

"We are verifying the total amount of salary she had drawn from both the Mahendragiri College as a demonstrator and the Sanakhemundi block office as an anganwadi worker."

Maharana has been working as a demonstrator at Mahendragiri College since 2001. But, she managed to work as an anganwadi worker between 2009 and 2013, simultaneously, vigilance said.
